This site is designed to help promote some of the live acts that regularly feature two talented veterans of the Kingston Ontario music scene - Drummer Gary Barratt and keyboard vocalist Tim Hallman. Hence the name "Drums And Ivory." Both musicians occasionally appear together as a duo as well as with a number of other musicians and bands from the Kingston area (see below). As a duo this proven drums and keyboard combination is reminiscent of another popular 1980's Kingston duo - Doctor Drums and The Ragtime Kidd. of which Gary Barratt was a founding member. This simple drums and piano formula works because the keyboards provide a full sound while the live drums hold everything together making it very danceable. Everything is performed live on the spot with no pre recorded sequencing, backing tracks or digital trickery. As Drums & Ivory they can also provide subdued background, or dinner music depending on what your occasion requires. With a set list of over 300 songs covering all genres from jazz standards to country, rock and roll, and pop rock there is no problem providing great live music for any occasion. Requiring little room for setup this "Duo" format is an affordable alternative to hiring a full band. Tim and Gary also appear as the "RETROS" when backing up singer Mary-Jo Maur.
